Project overview

This work covered hosting migration planning, DirectAdmin environment preparation, website and database migration, PHP-FPM environments, MariaDB, Apache, DNS, SSL/TLS, email configuration, backup workflows, monitoring, validation, and security hardening.

The focus was to move and stabilize a live multi-site environment while keeping production systems maintainable after migration.

The challenge

A live hosting environment had to be moved and stabilized while minimizing disruption and preserving websites, databases, certificates, email behavior, scheduled operations, and application compatibility.

My role

I contributed to migration planning, environment preparation, server configuration, data transfer coordination, website and database validation, SSL and DNS troubleshooting, backup design, post-migration stabilization, security review, and documentation.

The work required hands-on infrastructure support, careful sequencing, and practical communication across technical and operational needs.

Approach and implementation

  • Prepared an inventory and migration sequence before major changes.
  • Verified backups before migration and configuration work.
  • Migrated accounts and databases in controlled stages.
  • Checked PHP compatibility, DNS behavior, certificate status, email delivery, and application health.
  • Used logging, rollback planning, and post-migration testing to stabilize the environment.

Key capabilities delivered

  • Website and database migration
  • PHP runtime compatibility checks
  • DNS and SSL/TLS validation
  • Email and SMTP verification
  • Backup retention and recovery planning
  • Operational documentation and repeatable procedures

Outcomes

  • Established a more organized and maintainable hosting environment.
  • Improved backup and recovery readiness.
  • Standardized validation across migrated websites.
  • Resolved compatibility, certificate, and configuration issues.
  • Created repeatable operational procedures for future maintenance.

Confidentiality note

This overview avoids hostnames, IP addresses, customer domains, usernames, passwords, backup locations, filesystem paths, and exact internal configuration details.
